Macedonia church is affiliated with the Assemblies of God. Currently the Assemblies of God USA and Assemblies of God organizations around the world make up the world's largest Pentecostal denomination with some 38 million members and adherents. But numbers fail to tell the real story, and statistics can never meet human needs. People who need help in coming to know God, have problems in their home, or are troubled by any of a multitude of other things that keep people from being happy and fulfilled, need someone who cares. And that's the message of our Fellowship. Because Jesus cares for people, the Assemblies of God is people who care about each other.

History

Macedonia Christian Church of the assemblies of God began on march 28th 1939 . Rev. Jose Belen Hernandez a Puerto Rican Pentecostal pastor saw a need to start a church specifically for Latino  immigrants in east Harlem .  His dream was that there would be a church in the community that would be representative of the unique power of the Gospel.

Since its inception Macedonia  church has been a prevalent community of worship and a notable contour in the religious landscape of east Harlem.  Macedonia will always remaining in one of New York’s first Latino communities known as “el barrio”.

Macedonia church was first located on 104th street and Lexington avenue.  From then the church moved a few times after.  In the 1950’s and 60’s Macedonia made its home on 106th street and 3rd Ave and then to 80 E 111th street and finally in 1982 through the leadership of its previous Pastor Rev. Reynaldo Romero, Macedonia moved into its present location at 340 E 106 Street between 1st and 2nd avenues.

Early in its history, Macedonia became a center of theological education and ministerial preparation, establishing itself as one of the First Pentecostal Hispanic Bible institutes in the city of New York for the Assemblies of God. First known as "Instituto Biblico Hispano - Americano", many denominational leaders and Pastors have been former students or teachers at Macedonia. It was the Late Rev. Dr. Jose Caraballo, one of Macedonia's most formative pastors, who began this educational endeavor and who eventually was instrumental in establishing Bible institute branches throughout the tri-state area.

The church's present location is most notable, originally it was home to the Presbyterian Church of the Ascension. The Church of the Ascension was organized in 1909 by Italian Immigrants. The congregation met in a tent across the street of what would be their home on 106 Street. In 1913, the church structure was built by church's extension committee that contained of Italian craftsman and builders.

Macedonia continues the tradition that its Presbyterian brothers and sisters began early in the 20th century, that of dedicating the edifice as a house of worship in East Harlem.
